Top Drift Round 1 a Success
February 25, 2008

Ok so after one hell of an eventful two weeks before this event, Jason′s coupe not being ready due to suprising finds we made after it was purchased, the RMJ 240sx Hatch begins to overheat 2 days before we need to leave due to a brand new thermostat going bad, we finally made it out there.

The hatch was brought out of its brief retirement to run Round 1.  Glenn helped in the off-season to get the head ported and ready for cams and a new valve train and the tune was an amazing difference from last year, with a huge amount of new found torque down low.

Saturday was a practice at balcony, and it went well, engine performed flawlessly, ran a bit rich, but was good for some sweet popping and fire balls.  Clutch seemed to start slipping towards the middle of the day so we stopped to save it for Sunday′s comp.

Due to safety and possible rain, Round 1 was moved to the Balcony instead of Horsethief.  Jason was on the whole day in practice and through qualifying.  He walked into the final 8 putting down two of his most solid runs on in top 16 elimintations.  He was paired up for Tandom against fellow Pro-Am Finalist Mattycakes from SD.  Matty led the first lap and Glenn′s tune helped Jason close the gap on Matty going into the loop clearly Jason took the first lap.  Jason was set to lead which he is awesome at, not having made any major mistakes all day we all were confident. Jason unfortunately made his only mistake of the day which caused him to loose a lot of speed and almost spin costing him the match.

All in all we were all stoked, we were extremely proud because know we know we can attack while trailing in a tandem match and work great under pressure and stress of the previous weeks.

The fun continued with the Team Tandem Matches, where we threw a team together with long time Friend Jeff (turbo miata) and Dan from Powered by Max (S15 Silvia). The team took third, but man was it sweet to watch the three go at it.

We can′t wait for round 2, which will be in April at HorseThief Mile.

Thanks to all the homies who came up to watch, we had a good crowd going.

Special Thanks to:

Illicit Performance - Glenn for making my old hatch run awesome with a sweet tune and a great port job.

Atomic Speedware - for helping us out with all the components we needed for the head to be done and rocking.

Pictures and Video will be up soon.

February 10, 2008

Were going back to Bottle Blown Racing in Camarillo, to rent their dyno and let the mad master Glenn from Illicit do his magic on the two Drift cars, the Hatch and the Coupe.  Its Dyno battle time.

The will be sporting a new head complete with port, valve job, new valve seals and guides, Brian Crower springs and retainers, Brian Crower 264 cams, a new Turbo Manifold and the Tuning will be the final touch.

The Coupe will be showing off its new Haltech E6x, relocated intercooler, new oil cooler, some sweet ne GReddy SMI gauges, and also a sweet tune, running on a GT2540R ball-bearing turbo, this should be interesting.

Pro-Am Finals / 2007 Review
November 15, 2007

Our Trip to Laughlin for the 2007 Pro-Am Finals was great.  Friday morning everyone from the West Coast, East Coast and Midwest had made the trip.  Weather was nice but the track was very dirty because it had not been used in since last years event.  Morning practice was solid and Jason learned the track quick as usual, unfortunately the dirt on the track got the best of him on one run and the 240 suffered some damage on the passenger side rear, but nothing that compromised the performance of the car.  After a solid day of practice and competition on Saturday we unfortunately did not receive our Formula D Pro license for next year.

I would like to congratulate our west coast homies that did get there license:

Henry Schelley
Forrest Wang
Miki Frial
Austin Robinson
Colin Frost
Pat Mordaunt

And to all the Midwest and East Coast guys the qualified, you guys really brought the game this year.  Especially to Rod Riter, driving a turbo Miata, guy was gangster and a cool stand up guy too.

Finally reflecting on a very successful year, I would like to first off thank our families for the support, and most importantly the patience to put up with all the hectic chaos.  Glenn, from Illicit Performance, for tuning a great car and making the 240 perform to it maximum potential.  Bob from Turbo Performance for all the help with the turbine, manifold and intercooler.  For their help on the track, my bro-in-law David, Rick, the man Marky Mark Martinez.

Our final thanks goes out to Jason, not only for your excellent driving and making our car look amazing out there, but for being a great person, professional and become a close part of this team.

We look forward to the 2008 year, same team with a new trick up our sleeve.

Top Drift Round 5
October 27, 2007

We came back to Horse Thief Mile to improve on our Top 16 finish from Round 2.  With improvment made after round 2 on the tuning and suspension, we were confident today would be solid.  We also knew that we needed a strong finish to assure our spot to the Formula D Pro-Am Finals in November.

From the first practice session Jason tore it up, putting out solid runs consistantly. With a packed pit area, and about 40 cars ready to compete, round one began.  Jason continued his solid runs and qualified into Top 16 as the number 6 seed once again.  Top 16 was going to be tight, with a few new faces, one from the East coast and two from Hawaii and the familiar solid veterans, Jason made it into the top eight tandem round.

In top 8 we were once again paried up against points leader and friend Henry Schelley.  First pass, Henry leads, Jason comes into the first corner with a lot of heat and a bit to fast, being forced to slow down and breaking his momentum, advantage Henry.  Second pass Jason Leads, and just lays it down, hanging the rear tire off the track ganster style and pulling on Henry.  Judges make their call and the overall victory goes to Henry.

We finished 7th, but we moved up the rankings to number 6 and confirmed our trip to the Finals.  Congradulations to Henry, for finishing 2nd and winning the Season Pints Championship.

ILLICIT / RMJ Beginners Practice
October 13, 2007

We travelled once again to Willow Springs Balcony, to help tech and demo for a private practice event.  Stuck in horrible traffic on the 5 north due to a 20 truck pile up, we arrive about 2 hours late, but went right to work and had a blast.  Jason gave one of the "big-mouth" 805 locals a chance to tandem and we let the driver and car speak for us, check the video out in the drift team section.

Glenn brought his FD Meth adict monster out, that was sweet.  Our DVD product man, Eric Friedrice was out there driving smooth, it was a fun day and we hope to do it again in December at Horse Thief.

Top Drift Round 4
September 29, 2007
Round 4 was at the Balcony, repaved and longer for higher speeds into the infamous loop.  Our first time competing on this layout, but we were excited.  Jason had a solid practice and learned the course layout fast.  After first round eliminations, Jason qualified into top 16 as the number 6 seed.  Making it to top 16 for the 3rd consecutive time, we unfortunately did not pass through to Top 8 Tandem.  We look forward to the final round on October 27, we hope to have another solid finish to guarantee our spot for the Pro-Am Finals in Laughlin.

Top Drift Round 3
August 25, 2007

It was a very hot day at Willow Springs, the 240 was running great and Jason′s driving was on the mark.  After 1st round eliminations we found ourselves in heavy competition in the Top 16, Jason delivered two solid passes and secured his shot in the Top 8 Tandem round.  We were paired against Top Drift points leader Henry Schelley, after a hard fought battle, Henry would win the duel and our day ended in the Top 8.  Team Tandem Competition found us running with JustDrift President Charlie and Henry Schelley, without any time to practice the trio went out and delivered to perfection taking 1st Place in the Team Tandem competition, an end to a great day
